No. 1 Photographic Reconnaissance Unit, RAAF - April 1943

STRENGTH:- At the end of APRIL 1943 the strength of the Unit consisted of:-
106 AIRMEN - 2 W.O.'s, 1 F/Sgt., 9 Sgts., 19 Cpls., 75 LAC's. & AC's. (7 attached)
Mr. PARTRIDGE YMCA Representative left this Unit on 30th. APRIL 1943.
CHANGE OF COMMAND:- Upon the return of the Commanding Officer Squadron Leader L.W. LAW, Flight Lieutenant C.C. LAWRIE relinquished temporary command of the Unit as from 3rd. APRIL 1943.
PHOTOGRAPHIC SURVEY AND OPERATIONS:- A record number of operational reconnaissances was accomplished during the month in Lightning aircraft. Photographs were taken on six occasions but, on two others no results were achieved due to weather conditions and unserviceability. Reconnaissance covered all aerodromes in TIMOR. Many local surveys and photographs and some Army Co-operation exercises were carried out. The Unit has taken over the daily meteorological flight from No. 12 Squadron as from 17th. APRIL 1943.
TRAINING:- Flight Lieutenant F.H.W. ROBILLIARD is undergoing conversion course in Lightning aircraft.
AIRCRAFT:- Lockheed Lighnings - A55-1 Unserviceable. (Rough running.)
A55-3 Unserviceable. (Intercoolers leaking.)
Serviceability has been better than for some time but, trouble with intercoolers is still being experienced.
Republic Lancer - A56-4 Serviceable.
Brewster Buffalo - A51-1 Serviceable.
Brewster Buffalo - A51-3 Serviceable.
Wirraway - A20-178 Serviceable.
A 240 hourly inspection on A20-178 was carried out at No. 4 Repair and Salvage Unit during the month.
FLYING TIMES FOR APRIL:-
Lockheed Lightning 44 hours 20 minutes.
Republic Lancer 21 hours 05 minutes.
Brewster Buffalo 67 hours 05 minutes.
Wirraway 19 hours 40 minutes.
Total 152 hours 10 minutes.
TRANSPORT:- The Unit possessed the following transport at the end of APRIL 1943:-
