American request for aid in KOREA. Pilots detailed aircraft and assisted with arming.

Pre-breakfast testing to check drop-tanks. Trip to KOREA cancelled. Cross-country tactical exercises and section formations being substituted.

Dailies by all pilots. Aircraft armed and dispersed - squadron on stand-by all day.
Air Commodore A.M. CHARLESWORTH arrived from AUSTRALIA and F/Lt. NOLAN arrived from RAAF Headquarters on temporary duty.

Very inclement weather all day - nil flying. Practice alert and scramble during the afternoon.

Flying programme, which consisted of section formations, low flying and strafing was interrupted during the morning by a recall of aircraft following a signal from the C-in-C advising that the squadron was placed under 5th Air Force Command and to prepare for immediate action.
Aircraft were armed, fitted with long range fuel tanks and dispersed, with stand-by crews detailed. Pilots were issued with pistols and ammunition, emergency rations, medical kits, etc. and all operational equipment checked and made serviceable.
Dinghy drill was practiced in the swimming pool between 1000 and 1700 hours, pilots jumping from the six metre tower. This was followed by an intelligence lecture at 1700 hours on Russian aircraft recognition.
Five American transport aircraft were diverted to this field during the night.
