Governor-General (Lord Gowrie) visited COOMALIE Strip.
Flight Lieutnant W.E. WILLARD (Pilot) arrived on posting from No. 5 OTU.
9 August 1943 - COOMALIE CRK
F/O G.D. ERWIN appointed Squadron Photographic Officer.
Governor-General (Lord GOWRIE) visited No. 31 Squadron camp area.
11 August 1943 - COOMALIE CRK
Air Vice-Marshal W.R. ANDERSON - Officer Commanding, School of Command, visited No. 31 Sqdn.
12 August 1943 - COOMALIE CRK
S/Ldr. H.E. BANFIELD - Area Met. Officer, visited No. 31 Squadron.
13 August 1943 - COOMALIE CRK
Enemy aircraft made a Night attack on COOMALIE Strip, dropping General purpose bombs and incendiaries. One fire was started, but no damage was done. There were no casualties.
Flight Lieutenant COX - No. 54 Squadron - lectures aircrew personnel on air gunnery.
14 August 1943 - COOMALIE CRK
Anniversary of No. 31 Squadron - Squadron in operation one year.
W/Cdr. WALKER, DSO - OC, No. 5 OTU, visited No. 31 Squadron.
15 August 1943 - COOMALIE CRK
W/Cdr. WALKER returned to WAGGA by Beaufort Aircraft.
18 August 1943 - COOMALIE CRK
Voting for Federal Elections commenced at No. 31 Squadron - P/O F.S. THOMAS (124071) Squadron Returning Officer.
21 August 1943 - COOMALIE CRK
Enemy aircraft made night attack on COOMALIE Creek Strip - bombs were dropped - there was no damage to aircraft nor the area generally.
Aircraft A19-63:- Crew - F/O V.C. LEITHHEAD (Pilot) and F/O R.S. GRAVES (Nav.BW) and Aircraft A19-47:- Crew - F/Lt. R.J. GARDINER (Pilot) and F/O L.J. LYNE (Nav.BW) - collided over enemy territory at TABERFANE, AROE ISLANDS. Crews Missing believed killed.
G/Captain I.J. LIGHTFOOT and S/Ldr. R.J.C. HUNT (Directorate of Armament) Air Force Hqrs. visited No. 31 Squadron.
23 August 1943 - COOMALIE CRK
F/O D.L. DRYSDALE appointed Adjusting Officer for F/Lt. F.J. GARDINER and F/O L.J. LYNE and F/O A. COBHAM appointed Adjusting Officer for F/O V.C. LEITHHEAD and F/O R.S. GRAVES.
