No. 18 (NEI) Squadron, RAAF - April 1942

1 April 1942 - CANBERRA, ACT
Lt. G. VAN RIJN and party of 5 NEI Personnel arrived by Air in B.25 N-134 from BRISBANE to arrange for the formation and location of Dutch Squadron, Lt. VAN RIJN acting as Squadron Commander.
4 April 1942 - CANBERRA, ACT
No. 18 NEI Squadron formed to establishment HD-53. Five (5) Officers and one hundred (100) other ranks arrived from MELBOURNE by train. Hangar 48 was given over to NEI Squadron, and personnel were accommodated in Station Barracks. Married personnel were permitted to live out.
16 April 1942 - CANBERRA, ACT
S/Ldr. C.J. STORM, Squadron Medical Officer; F/Lt. VAN DER SCHROEFF; F/O W.J. BURCK arrived by train and took up duties with No. 18 Squadron.
17 April 1942 - CANBERRA, ACT
F/Lt. L.J. YANSSEN and party of three Officers with twenty one other ranks arrived by train from BRISBANE.
21 April 1942 - CANBERRA, ACT
W/Cmdr. B.J. FIEDELDY, Commanding Officer No. 18 Squadron, arrived and took over command. Lt. P KRUYNE, NEI Finance Officer, arrived and took over duties as Squadron Finance Officer.
30 April 1942 - CANBERRA, ACT
No. 18 NEI Squadron held a Ceremonial Parade and hoisted the National Dutch Flag in honour of the Princess' birthday (Her Royal Highness Princess JULIANA) on the flag pole near the Station Post Office.
